IOFF organizer, Karen Hunter, was honoured to meet WWII veteran, Don White, at Toronto’s Warriors’ Day Parade on Saturday. Don recently had a tulip named after him by the Dutch Prime Minister.
Don served in The Netherlands with the Royal Canadian Dragoons’ C Squadron. Asked about his wartime experience, he recalled the Canadian soldiers going on half-rations to help feed the starving population. “I’m just so darn grateful that our soldiers were able to free the Dutch people from their oppression,” he said.
