Canadian soldiers salute at Groesbeek War Cemetery

This Monday at the Canadian War Cemetery in Groesbeek, Canadian soldiers (who are participating in the Nijmegen Four Days Marches) commemorated their fallen compatriots. It was the second consecutive year that this happened the day before the start of the Four Days Marches (In Dutch: Vierdaagse Nijmegen).

The memorial was attended by delegates from other Allied countries. On behalf of the municipality of Berg en Dal, Mayor Slinkman laid a wreath. Many citizens from the entire region had also come to Groesbeek to be present at this impressive ceremony. Dozens of wreaths were laid on the monument. After the Last Post had sounded, an F-16 jet fighter appeared from the cloudy sky to bring an honorary salute to the 2,338 Canadian soldiers buried in Groesbeek.

On behalf of IOFF, Karen Hunter (decendant and organizer) is also participating in the Nijmegen Four Days Marches as we speak! Way to go, Karen!
